Catfight Meanderings by… Cat Daddy

That is a very kind and tempting offer you are making me to write for your website.  I have been trying to promote some Streetstyle Production Catfighting with mixed success over in Houston with a friend of mine who owns Homemade Catfights in a New Series I dubbed "Havoc" that he adopted as the name for these streetstyle catfights. Some good, some not so good. Because of my cancer, and the devastation I suffered financially from Hurricane Katrina, I have not been doing much writing, reviews or otherwise about catfighting. On a related note, in the past, I was friends with the folks at Crystalfilms for a long time and going way back, I used to correspond with John Cain back in the early 80’s though I doubt if he would remember me.
We wrote real letters to one another back then… on paper. :)  He did some of the earlier attempts at real catfighting around the same time as Frank Rusha, maybe slightly later than Frank’s material.

I really got connected to the Catfight world after subscribing to a publication that predated the internet called "AmFem".  I discovered most if not all the major players from the late 70’s and early 80’s through that booklet which was more like a Yellow Pages For All Types Of Femme Fighting. After being a great customer of Crystalfilms for about 15 years, and having many phone conversations with Mike Donovan (not his real name), I began writing reviews for their Video Magazine beginning around VideoMagazine number 15.  The last few I wrote for them before they finally gave up on producing any new ones with VidMag 20 being the last one, are still posted at Crystalfilms.com.

I was really in to doing reviews at that time, and made both friends and enemies over at "Womansplace", a website created and run by a nice woman going by the name of Barbara or Barb as we all called her. She was deeply philosophical about catfighting, and the warrior woman psyhe.  Her website used to be the crossroads of the entire femme fight scene for around 5 of the last 10 years the website existed. Digressing… There are many different types of Catfighting, with most of them being Not Truly Competitive, hence, not real catfighting in the same sense as UFC & MMA are authentic pugilistic and martial arts (including jui-jitsu, judo, and wrestling) forms of combat. In it’s purist form, Catfighting is just as valid of a fighting style for women as UFC is for men. The tendency at most production companies, is for the Catfighting to Turn In To A Wrestling Match, with just a few Token Catfight Moves thrown in.

If you have ever watched the bootleg tape the Boone Bros. put together of Ripped Off Material from Crystalfilms, you will see a really outstanding Cross Section of some of the best Streetstyle Competitive Catfighting Matches Crystalfilms managed to capture in their Video Magazine series during the 10 or 12 years or so they produced them. Few other production companies managed to match Crystal’s output and quality of catfighting.  Mike Donovan told me they had about 200 unreleased catfights around the time that Video Magazine XX was released. When the Melt Down over there occurred, and they ceased releasing new catfights, those matches remained Unreleased. There is a gold mine of catfights sitting around somewhere because of Legal Wrangling and Infighting (I have surmised this, though this may not be entirely accurate) between different parties involved with catfighting over at Crystalfilms. Whether we will see these catfights during my lifetime, no one will or could know, especially me.

I used to request Certain Match Ups between women in different catfights in the VidMag series (even in my reviews), and Mike would always tell me that the matches were filmed a year or more ago, and they could not readily get in contact with the Girlz I wanted to see in new Catfights. I think this lends credence to his assertion there were many more unreleased catfights that had been shot by Crystalfilms, because there was a long lead time between the filming and releasing of the Video Magazines. When the trouble began at Crystal in earnest, there were many outdone Catfight Fans on their message board and at Barb’s message boards because they releases slowed down to one about every 12 or 13 months towards the end.

I guess the point of all these Catfight Meanderrings is that I do miss having a good Venue for putting what I know about Streetstyle Competitive Catfighting out there for possible New Producers to read. There are many aspects to producing good Catfights, and many Concerns mainly in the form of taking prudent precautions to make sure the women doing them have reasonable protection in place for the prevention of serious injuries during their matches. Since the very nature of Fighting in Any Style is to make the competition so uncomfortable for your opponent that they either are physically incapable of carrying on or are psychologically beaten and just don’t want to continue even if they could. So, there is a risk of serious injury in every fight. Same thing can be said about Professional Football, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, UFC, and even wrestling. So, if you love Catfighting, you address the risks as best as you can, and proceed on with Producing them. Hey, the women that truly love Catfighting, Want To Fight. You can always tell if Girlz are true catfighters, because they are always ready to go again, and relish the idea of showing their competition what a Real Catfight is all about. There are a lot of women who can "Talk The Talk", but can’t "Walk The Walk."

Well I am finally getting drowsy, and will close this letter to you. It has some interesting history and points in it. I will see if I can carve out some time to do reviews of the better Streetstyle Catfights I can recommend to people who enjoy Authentic Competitive Catfighting that is definitely not purely a wrestling match.  :)   Wrestling does have it’s place in a catfight, but not as a Submissions Move. I’ll make that my next message/article to you and do it more in an Article Format.

Thanks again for your kind invitation.
